Interested in joining the Boulder County Mounted Search and Rescue?
You have come to the right place! As a volunteer organization, we are always looking for new, qualified applicants.
What is required to join?
Members must be at least 21 years old. You must own or have access to a qualified horse fit to ride, and own or have access to a truck and horse trailer. Members must exhibit proficient horsemanship and trail manners, and pass a Horse and Rider Evaluation (HRE). You must attend regular meetings and trainings, as well as participate in at least 30% of emergency call-outs. Members must also be able to pass a background check, and keep up to date with all required certifications.
Horse Requirements
Horse participation is the main purpose of this group, so every horse must also fulfill specific requirements. Every horse must be at least 5 years old, and be a mare or gelding (no stallions). The horse must be sound and in good physical condition, and can conduct a 5-mile minimum search. The horse must trailer and tie, safely navigate many obstacles, and be safe around other horses. Most importantly, the horses must have a reasonable attitude in new and possibly stressful environments.
